India's Manushi Chhillar crowned Miss World, 17 years after Priyanka Chopra
India's Manushi Chillar won the coveted Miss World 2017 pageant in Sanya (China), 16 years after Priyanka Chopra won the title in 2000. Chillar competed against 108 contestants from various countries at a glittering event held at Sanya City Arena in China.Chhillar is the sixth Indian to win the coveted crown, which was first won by Reita Faria back in 1966.
India’s Manushi Chhillar on Saturday won the coveted Miss World 2017 crown at a grand event in China, bringing to an end the country’s dry spell of 17 years at the top pageant contest.
The 20-year-old from Haryana, who is a medical student, edged out top five contestants from England, France, Kenya and Mexico at the event, which saw participation from 118 countries.
Chhillar was presented the crown by Stephanie Del Valle, the last year’s Miss World winner from Puerto Rico at an event held at a resort in the coastal city of Sanya.
She competed against 108 contestants from various countries at a glittering event held at Sanya City Arena in China.
Miss World 2016 winner Puerto Rico`s Stephanie Del Valle gave away the crown to the winner.
Chhillar had earlier this year won the Femina Miss India 2017.
Born to doctor parents, she is a medical student and has studied at St Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat.
Chhillar's entire family including brother and sister were present at the event.
